El Virus de la Diarrea Vírica Bovina en Cérvidos Cautivos del Ecuador
Resumen
Se conoce que el Virus de la Diarrea Vírica Bovina (VDVB) puede cruzar las barreras entre especies e infectar a varios huéspedes de mamíferos del orden Artiodactyla, entre ellos a los cérvidos. En el Ecuador, es todavía común encontrar centros de rescate (o zoocriaderos) que manejan cérvidos junto a ganado bovino, sin tomar en cuenta que esos últimos pueden ser portadores o reservorios de VDBV. En este estudio se desea evidenciar la presencia del VDVB en cérvidos en cautiverios mediante un estudio serológico de ELISA. Se colectaron un total de 53 muestras de suero en 14 unidades de manejo de vida silvestre en las tres regiones del Ecuador continental, en 2012. Mediante las pruebas se encontró 25 ciervos (47,2 %) con anticuerpos contra BVDV. Además, se encontraron factores de riesgos asociados a la presencia del virus en los cérvidos. Debido a que muchos de estos centros cuentan con programas de reintroducción de venados, cérvidos portadores del virus, podrían propagar el BVDV a otros animales en estado silvestre.
