Enfermedad Periodontal en Pacientes con Tratamiento de Ortodoncia. Revisión de Literatura
Resumen
Objetivo: Exponer la influencia que el tratamiento ortodóntico (Brackets) produce sobre los tejidos periodontales, mediante una revisión de literatura entre el año 2017 y 2023, en las bases de datos de Pubmed, Scielo y Google Scholar. Materiales y Métodos: Se realizó una investigación descriptiva mediante una búsqueda bibliográfica en las bases de datos de PubMed, Scielo y Google Scholar, resultando en 213 artículos. Con base en criterios de inclusión y exclusión, se seleccionaron 20 artículos relevantes publicados entre 2017 y 2023, abordando enfermedades periodontales, tratamiento ortodóntico e índice periodontal. Tras su revisión y análisis, se eligieron 13 artículos para un examen más detallado y presentación de sus resultados. Resultados: Se analizaron un total de 13 artículos, que consistían en 10 estudios con pacientes y 3 revisiones de literatura. Los estudios con pacientes se centraron en la evaluación periodontal, el agrandamiento gingival, la placa bacteriana, las citoquinas y los efectos del tratamiento. En general, los artículos destacaron la relación entre el tratamiento ortodóntico y la salud periodontal, enfatizando la necesidad de una higiene bucal meticulosa y un control individualizado de la placa. Conclusión: Después de analizar la información, se concluye que la relación entre el tratamiento de ortodoncia y la enfermedad periodontal se debe a una falta de higiene oral y de la aparatología utilizada. La falta de limpieza puede llevar al inicio de la enfermedad periodontal, lo que aumenta el riesgo en pacientes con ortodoncia.
